ToggleWHAT HAPPENED?
Malacia has endured a tough few years at Old Trafford after a promising first campaign, having become former manager Ten Hag's first signing for United back in 2022. A severe knee injury and later complications meant he missed the entirety of the 2023-24 campaign, but he finally returned to action in late 2024. He made a handful of appearances under Ruben Amorim before being sent to PSV Eindhoven on loan.

THE BIGGER PICTURE
The Dutch side elected not to turn that loan into a permanent deal, which has opened the door for Scottish champions Celtic to make a move. Malacia is one of five United players who have been told they are free to leave the club this summer and the Manchester Evening News claim the Red Devils could allow the 25-year-old to leave for only £3.22m, the fee they need to ensure they avoid a loss under Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).
The Daily Record further add that Celtic were interested in Malacia during the winter transfer window and could be tempted into making an offer this summer.

DID YOU KNOW?
Malacia made 12 appearances in all competitions during his loan spell with PSV, who overturned a huge points deficit to win the Eredivisie title after Ajax's poor end to the season. Three of those games came in the Champions League, including the 7-1 thrashing his side suffered at the hands of Arsenal in March.

WHAT NEXT FOR MALACIA?
The nine-time Netherlands international will hope to secure an exit this summer in his bid to get more regular game time, though his chances of a transfer this summer have been hindered by a reported lack of interest from clubs around Europe.
